B. ACTIVITIES

Dr.Myo Nyunt from Minnesota visited Myanmar in 2012 and 2013 for trail-blazing mission in launching “Burmese Diaspora Global Network” to contribute Myanmar in building prosperous democratic society.

In 2012 he met with Deputy Chairman of Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of Myanmar Industries Association in Yangon in promotion of Burmese diaspora role.

In May 2013 again he conducted workshop on “Aid Coordination and Management: Theory & Practices in Yangon at Union of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in Nay-Pyi-Daw at Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. He questioned how to deal and tackle if and when mass aid flow is anticipated and how to reverse brain drain to brain gain and rebuild brain power house of future generation using donors’ funding and this is the one area where the Burmese Diaspora can readily play an important role. In June he conducted workshop on “From Brain Drain to Brain Gain through Brain Circulation of Burmese Diaspora”. He convinced the audience of the diaspora as carrier of soft knowledge for development to the home country: evidence from neighboring countries highly skilled migrants. He proposed to the Government in future cooperation with the Burmese Diaspora and tapping talents in Myanmar through Diasporas Network: Opportunities and Challenges. He suggested collaboration between the intellectual Burmese at home and in the Diaspora, encourage closer interaction, dissemination of scientific information and sharing of experiences in building capacity and brain power house at home.

He was interviewed by journalists from Yangon Times and Weekly Eleven on issue of Burmese Diaspora and their role in democratization process in Myanmar after his presentation.

He launched a platform in Myanmar with his intellectual colleagues at home called “Community Improvement and Development Organization (CIDO) which is affiliate to the Community Improvement and Development incorporated in Minnesota, United States.
